Call Your U.S. Representative Today to Stop the Closing of our Social Security Offices
Over the last few years, the Social Security Administration (SSA) has seen its budget drastically cut by Congress, resulting in 11,000 fewer staff to provide customer service to the roughly 25 million Americans who visited Field Offices in 2013.
Today is a national call-in day to save Social Security offices. We need you to call your U.S. Representative today and say, “Stop Closing SSA Field Offices and Cutting Vital Services!”
SSA has already closed nearly 80 field offices and plans to close hundreds more. Officials are also rolling out cuts in critical services. Effective August 1, you won’t be able to get Social Security Number printouts. Last year alone, millions of people visited Field Offices to obtain this document.
This sharp decline in face-to-face customer service needs to stop now. Americans have worked hard and paid for their Social Security. SSA should not make it more difficult for hard-working citizens to access their benefits. Call your U.S. Representative and express your concerns. We need you to make two calls:
• Call #1: Call 1-888-907-8362. Urge your Representative to support the Social Security Administration Accountability Act of 2014 (H.R. 3997) and stop SSA’s irresponsible plans to close SSA Field Offices.
• Call #2: Call 1-202-224-3121. Urge your Representative to support the Seniors Access to Social Security Act of 2014 (H.R. 4964), which requires SSA to continue providing Social Security Number printouts.
SSA Field Offices and the services they provide are critical to communities across the country.
Thank you for making the call. You can make a difference!
