Tell Your U.S. Senators to Stop the Sequester Today!
Unless Congress acts this week, drastic automatic spending cuts, known as the sequester, will go into effect. Programs vital to seniors like Meals on Wheels, cutting edge medical research, and food safety inspections would be severely cut back. While our Social Security and Medicare benefits themselves will not be cut and are protected, Social Security offices will have their hours cut back and their staff reduced.
The way that Congress can avoid these unnecessary automatic cuts this week and still protect our key Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid programs, is by voting on The American Family Economic Protection Act. It is a fair plan that retirees should tell their U.S. senators to vote for. Click here to send a message to your Senator.
The bill raises revenues by requiring millionaires and corporations to pay their fair share in taxes, including a minimum tax. It eliminates tax breaks for corporations that send jobs overseas, recognizes savings from scaling back the war in Afghanistan, and cuts unnecessary farm subsidy payments.
